Akukulu Family is a limited liability company registered in Maryland to create awareness and serve as a mentoring and networking platform for all minority communities

Our Vision Is to build a healthy, prosperous, and integrated community through specially designed capacity building programs for underrepresented communities with focus on youth and women.

Our Mission

Our Mission Is to provide a bilingual, all-inclusive, and culturally oriented information, mentorship, tutoring, and networking to underserved communities. Life Youth Mentorship and Tutoring (LYMT), RBS Women's Business Mentorship, Sekate Business Certification Mentorships, Consultations, and social media videos, blogs, as well as podcasts are alleviating barriers to use information.

The Founder’s Message

Serving the local and international Ethiopian and Eritrean communities for over two decades has been an honor and privilege for me. My love for the people I serve and the strong desire to provide quality family services generate constant energy to drive my work. These family services include information sharing, family consultations, youth and adult mentorships, and leadership training. In addition, my experience and a particular passion for family services allowed me to narrow my focus on productive parenting while leading a healthy and fruitful married life.

Pediatric Pharmacy Experience

My 18 years of Pediatric Pharmacy experience has greatly influenced my family services. Caring for sick kids daily and advocating for their health and safety shaped my whole perspective of child-raising and parenthood. I learned that parents could successfully raise their children given adequate resources and information. Thus, relevant information can augment parents’ efforts to grow healthy and educated kids who are socially and spiritually active.

A Passionate Mother

Being a mother of three daughters added a sweet flavor to my existing passion for kids. I love my children and would like to share this love with my community’s kids. I want all the best for all kids. A warm house filled with love and care nurtures healthy children’s growth. Supporting healthy marriage positively affects kids’ overall outcomes.

Faith-Based Community Service Experience

As a devout Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Christian church and Sunday School member, I played key roles during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of these roles was educating the public on much-needed health care, virtual schooling, free meals, and shelter services. In addition, I, along with many of my community members, worked hard to spread the word about free psychological and professional support to improve families’ health.

Focusing on the Second Generation

Upon expanding and enhancing my services, I decided to establish the Akukulu Family company to serve the English-speaking second immigrant generation and people of color. Through Akukulu Family’s services, programs, and consultations, we aspire to build a better future for minority communities.

Black Woman-Owned Business

Owned and operated by a black woman, Akukulu Family aims to work with governmental and non-governmental agencies to support start-up Minority and Black-owned businesses with a particular focus on Black Women-Owned Businesses. We plan to foster sustainable community growth through knowledge and skill-based training programs. Akukulu Family is a social enterprise that invests back into the community.

Collaborative Work

As a small business, Akukulu Family engages in collaborative work with local and national small business networks to serve other small businesses. We share our experiences and offer our advice to startup businesses. Our social media, podcast, and website are geared towards information sharing, mentoring, and networking.

Information is power. Akukulu Family’s platform creates a safe, secure, and easily accessible information hub, a mentoring, and networking center valuable to all members of our minority communities. My colleagues and I will proudly serve our communities.
