We are Hiring Mentors and Tutors for "Life Youth Mentorship & Tutoring" Program.
Akukulu Family is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as hybrid mentors and tutors in the DMV area. The role involves mentoring and tutoring in Mathematics, English, and Science-STEM subjects, as well as supporting students’ social, emotional, and personal development.
Mentors and tutors will work during the school day, evenings, weekdays, and weekends. We’re interested in hiring flexible, positive and personable individuals who can motivate our youth to be their best.
Mentors and tutors will work in collaboration with parents and program coordinators to help students achieve academic success and personal growth.
Job Details:
- W-2 positions, Part Time, Per Diem
- In-person sessions in weekdays, evenings, and weekends
- Virtual tutoring sessions may be conducted in case of inclement weather
- $25 -$35 per hour

Responsibilities:
- Follow the Life Youth Mentorship and Tutoring curriculum
- Educate and guide individuals in a mentoring relationship
- Provide support and guidance to individuals facing various challenges
- Develop and implement individuals’ and group’s mentoring programs
- Assist individuals in setting and achieving personal and educational goals
- Encourage homework completion and academic diligence
- Administer quizzes to assess knowledge and skills
- Provide tutoring based on student needs and questions
- Help individuals develop life skills and make positive choices
- Assist students in developing social and emotional skills and constructive behavior both inside and outside the school.
- Participate in field trips, events, and activities to promote growth and achievement in STEM, English, and Art
- Provide regular feedback to program coordinators and parents.
- Collaborate with other professionals to provide comprehensive support
Experience:
- Previous experience in youth tutoring or mentoring is preferred
- Strong conflict management and problem-solving skills
- Experience working with children or youth is highly desirable
- Knowledge of addiction counseling and recovery principles is a plus
Qualifications:
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- Authorized to work in U.S.
- Minimum qualification of college education or perusing college degree
- Bilingual in Amharic and English
- Consistent, punctual, and flexible
- Ability to interact with students in a classroom, write on a whiteboard/chalkboard, and use teaching aid technology
- Verbal and written English language proficiency sufficient to communicate with people we support, co-workers, and community members.
- Pass a pre-employment Criminal Background Check (complete fingerprint)
- Experience with using Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
- Able to complete all assigned weekly and monthly documentations accurately and within allotted time frames
- Ability to work independently and function as part of a team
- Have good judgment and able to handle crisis situations
